Mary | School Director

Mary Windmiller is the Director of WSMS.  She oversees, with the advice of the Board, admissions, finances, personnel, public relations and with the help of husband Gene, building and grounds. Mary says that working with talented, enthusiastic teachers and an energetic Parent Organization makes her job easier, but much busier and more rewarding.

Mary has been involved in education since 1973, when did Student teaching in Chemistry at Rockbridge High School, followed by teaching elementary science in Jefferson City Public Schools. Since then she has obtained an M. Ed and taught for a year at MU.

After the birth of her son, she stayed at home to care for him with no plans for teaching again. Until she enrolled him at Children\’s House and discovered the teaching philosophy of Maria Montessori, and obtained Montessori Teaching Certification, through the American Montessori Society. Nicholas, her son, is now grown and lives with his wife and three children in Sydney, Australia. Her grandson, Henry, attends a beautiful Montessori school there.

Mary says, “It has been my privilege to help many teachers become Montessori certified, to see thousands of children thrive in a Montessori Children\’s House and now to see that opportunity extended through the Elementary years at WSMS”.

In her spare time, she enjoys taking walks at the creek or in the woods, reading and spending time with her husband, seeing movies and traveling, always keeping an eye out for things to enhance the classrooms at WSMS and CH.
